Grace as a ‘License to Sin’ & God’s Disinterest in Our Sacrifice

This is part of a longer message I gave on January 21, 2012 in San Jose CA.

In it, I talk about the often-heard (albeit incredulously false) accusation that the grace we preach gives people a ‘license to sin’ and how ridiculous that is…as well as the fact that despite popular opinion, God is really not all that interested in your ‘sacrifice’ and how much you can give up for Him.

The full video will be up soon.

Hi Ryan, good message, thanks. There’s one thing I want to ask you about. “sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me” Surely in this context, its about the end of animal atonement and the ot sacrificial system. Jesus became the sacrifice, once and for all. However, regarding ourselves we are told to offer up our bodies as a “living sacrifices” , so yes we are to offer up ourselves as a sacrifice arent we?

Hi Gordon – yes, I agree that we are to ‘present ourselves as a living sacrifice’ — Paul says as such in Romans — what I am getting at in this video is that our ‘sacrifice’ does not ‘move God’ and that religion always emphasizes the importance of our sacrifice while the Gospel always emphasizes the importance of His.

Hi, its so good to hear New Covenant truths when there is so much mixture going on in the modern church. I’ve wrestled with the lie of “if we preach grace, people will just go out and commit every abominable sin.” I’m realizing that grace has the inherent power to cause us to not want to sin. It doesn’t just save us from punishment but teaches us to avoid ungodliness. The law, on the other hand, stirs up the desires of the flesh and is the strength of sin b/c it reminds us we can’t obey the law. Keep up the good work, I’ve been really blessed by the stuff you guys have put out there.
